In Fabula
A gourmand rose chypre inspired by the founder's magenta monochromes, where toasted hazelnut sweetness meets the shade of oakmoss.
Perfumer: Bérénice Watteau
In Fabula grew out of founder Franck Salzwedel's magenta monochromes, and perfumer Bérénice Watteau read that fuchsia as something edible: she describes praline, rose, raspberry and macaron set against a deliberately heavy chypre. The opening pairs red berries and blackcurrant buds, tart and slightly green, with the brightness of Sicilian orange blossom. At the heart, rose absolute meets a hazelnut accord and amber; the house likens this toasted sweetness to French pastry, naming the Saint-Honoré and the Ispahan. The base gathers cedarwood, sandalwood, Indonesian patchouli, Madagascan vanilla and musks, while oakmoss adds a bitter, shaded depth that keeps the sugar from floating away. It is an extrait at 25%, housed in a monolithic block of solid glass that the brand presents as a raspberry-lacquered jewel finished with a drop of gold. A rose for those who want pastry richness and chypre shadow in the same bottle.
