Tobacco Sapphire sets out to evoke the wood-panelled smoking rooms of a bygone era. A smoky jewel sits at the centre of the shield on its bottle, and the brand describes the scent in the same terms, smouldering and glittering at once.
The opening is built from cumin, incense, mandarin, saffron and coriander. Anisic cumin and coriander meet the brightness of mandarin for a pungent start. The heart of hedione, heliotrope, magnolia and rose follows: hedione lends a sparkling, refractive clarity, and the almond-like sweetness of heliotrope rounds out the floral layer.
The base lists benzoin, cedarwood, cistus labdanum, guaiacwood, musk, patchouli, sandalwood, vanilla and tobacco. The brand gives the tobacco golden caramel facets alongside honeyed hay, mosses and a whisper of singed paper, and the resins and woods around it rebuild the air of that old smoking room. It offers both sharp spice and warm, sweet tobacco in a single perfume.
