About Valérie Garnuch-Mentzel
Valérie Garnuch-Mentzel is a French-trained perfumer whose career has developed across Germany and other international centres. Her work spans fine fragrance, personal care and hair care, with a particular interest in the different textures of wood, spices and amber.
Career
Raised in Metz in northeastern France, she studied biology and chemistry before graduating from ISIPCA in 1992. She also completed an internship at IFF. She joined Drom in the same year, beginning with two years in quality control before developing her work in perfumery. Her career took her to Paris, Munich and New York. Givaudan has presented her as a Consumer Product Perfumer based in Baierbrunn, Germany, with expertise extending across personal care, hair care and fine fragrance.
Creative Style & Philosophy
Garnuch-Mentzel enjoys working with woods, spices and amber in compositions for different wearers. More powerful and darker ingredient textures can become part of a brighter, more striking expression. Her work also connects the tactile qualities of fabric with fragrance, allowing softer floral and woody impressions to suggest the feel of suede or cashmere rather than relying on an abstract creative theme alone.
Signature Works
- **Relover for Him — Replay**: Bergamot and pear meet green leaves, spices and woods in a masculine composition.
- **Velvet Plum — Lalique**: Cashmeran, flowers and softer woody textures translate the tactile inspiration of suede and cashmere into fragrance.
