About Théo Belmas

Théo Belmas is a French perfumer raised in southern France who studied molecular chemistry and perfumery. He trained in Grasse, worked at Concept Aromatique, and joined Symrise in 2019. His background and role are documented by Pigmentarium and Symrise. He belongs to a generation of perfumers whose creative practice also includes close technical work with natural materials, regulatory reformulation, and new captive ingredients.

Career

After studying molecular chemistry and a specialist cosmetics, flavours, and fragrances program in Montpellier, Belmas trained in the Grasse fragrance industry. He worked at Concept Aromatique on projects for several international markets before moving to Symrise. There, his roles have included natural-material evaluation, reformulation, and fine-fragrance creation. Symrise has also identified him as part of its Fine Fragrance team and as a co-creator of a modern patchouli base developed for the de Laire collection.

Creative Style & Philosophy

Belmas has described an affinity for powerful amber and oriental structures and for materials such as cardamom, olibanum, sandalwood, cedar, and vanilla. His approach combines technical raw-material knowledge with inspiration from art, travel, music, dance, and food. He treats natural and synthetic materials as complementary tools, using their different stability, texture, and performance to build a clear signature rather than privileging one category.
