About Maurice Roucel
Maurice Roucel is a Master Perfumer at Symrise with more than fifty years in fine fragrance. He does not separate chemical precision from the emotional belief that a perfume must contain affection.
Career
Born in Normandy, Roucel developed a strong interest in chemistry. In 1973, at twenty-three, he joined CHANEL and began perfumery training while working as a chemist. He pursued the relation between molecules and smell with largely self-directed curiosity, then gained experience at several fragrance houses before joining what is now Symrise in 1996. In 2025 the company marked more than fifty years of his creative work.
Creative Style & Philosophy
He considers creativity and passion inner qualities that no textbook can supply, and says a formula must carry the maker's affection. Materials may begin in tiny trials before being pushed toward a bold dose, always testing the point before the composition is suffocated. Florals, musk, woods, and amber sit on concise frameworks that retain body heat, softness, and a trace of animality.
