About Jakub F. Hiermann
Jakub Florian Hiermann is a Czech perfumer from Prague and a co-founder of Pigmentarium, where he created the house’s first six fragrances. In 2023 he established J. F. Hiermann, his own perfume house, combining fragrance creation with creative direction.
Career
Hiermann began his path in perfumery in London in 2009, taking fragrance courses during the six years he lived there. After returning to Prague, he founded Pigmentarium with Tomáš Ric in 2018. His independent practice includes commissions for individuals and businesses and collaborations that connect fragrance with an artist’s work or a particular space.
Creative Style & Philosophy
He describes a contemporary approach to classical materials: familiar ingredients placed in combinations that allow an unexpected impression to emerge. Sandalwood, rose, civet, neroli and grapefruit are among his favourite smells, while the memory of his grandmother’s perfume is an early personal reference. Imagination usually initiates his work, but another artist’s vision can also open a new direction, as it did for the garden-inspired Genesis.
Signature Works
- *Ad Libitum* — citrus, flowers, woods and moss evoke the fading light over Prague Castle.
- *Genesis* — created from sculptor Tereza Štětinová’s wish for a refreshing fragrance that could bring a green garden into the city.
