About François Demachy

François Demachy is a French perfumer who placed the land and materials of Grasse at the center of creation. For him, fragrance did not end at the laboratory door: fields, growers, harvest, and extraction formed one continuous practice.

Career

Demachy grew up in Grasse, where his father ran a pharmacy and plants, herbs, and aromatic materials were part of daily life. After a long career in the fragrance industry, he became Dior Perfumer-Creator in 2006. Alongside composition, his role involved relationships with Grasse growers and the quality of the house's natural materials.

Creative Style & Philosophy

Materials are not treated as luxury labels. Place, harvest timing, and the texture created by extraction all enter the formula. Flowers such as rose and jasmine carry not only volume but also light, humidity, stems, and memories of soil. Demachy gives traditional materials clear contemporary outlines, balancing force with ease on skin.
