About Carine Certain Boin

A French perfumer at Givaudan, based in New York, who sees fragrance as a language of emotion and imagination. Her work balances clarity with a quietly surprising or innovative twist.

Career

She fell under the spell of scent at age twelve while watching the film *Fanfan*, later studying chemistry and working as a perfumer's assistant before joining the Givaudan Perfumery School. There she honed her craft and found her voice, and she now creates fragrances for international markets.

Creative Style & Philosophy

Food and drink are constant sources of inspiration, with new pairings, textures, and flavours sparking ideas. She also speaks about expressing something without words, drawing a parallel between physical movement and the way a fragrance can communicate a feeling. Her interest lies in making a composition clear enough to recognize while leaving room for a surprising detail. She is also moved by movement and emotion, and she favours spices, woods, and berries, building tension between delicacy and strength in her compositions.

Signature Works

  • *Pacific Rock Moss* — co-created with François Merle-Baudoin, a coastal aquatic combining lemon, sage, geranium, cedarwood and white musk
  • *Sasra* — a luminous niche fragrance pairing crisp green apple and rhubarb with rosemary, chamomile, and clary sage
