About Alex Lee
Alex Lee is an American perfumer born in California and now working with the IFF Paris creative team. Fascinated by essences from childhood, he came to see scent as a form of emotional medicine: a way to work with memory and feeling while pursuing the wish to help others that had first drawn him toward medicine.
Career
After pre-medical studies in California, Lee moved to France in 2007 to study French in Lyon. He entered the Grasse Institute of Perfumery in 2008, worked as an assistant perfumer at a local fragrance house, and continued his training at ISIPCA and Mane's perfumery school. He later joined Mane's Paris creation team, won the Scent of Esxence young perfumer competition in 2013, and began a new chapter at IFF in 2024.
Creative Style & Philosophy
Lee's public portfolio moves between floral, spicy, woody, and incense-led structures. Orange blossom, patchouli, saffron, iris, and textured woods recur as useful points of focus, but his work is less about displaying a material than about controlling its density, temperature, and tactile effect. Brightness may be set against shadow, or dry spice against a warmer base, so that the composition changes in texture rather than simply growing louder.
