About Wool Absolute

Wool absolute is an animal-derived perfumery material extracted from shorn sheep wool. It carries the aromatic character of the fleece and its associated fats into a concentrated form, rather than functioning as a textile fibre or as a conventional botanical oil.

Scent Profile

Its central impression is rich, warm lanolin, the familiar fatty character associated with wool. Soft leather, dried fruit and a faintly boozy sweetness give it more detail than a simple farmyard smell, with a gentler animalic character than many of the pungent materials traditionally used for that effect. The resulting texture can suggest warmth held close to the body, with a rounded density that sits beneath brighter notes.

Use in Perfumery

Small quantities can bring depth to leather, oud and amber compositions, supporting a supple, intimate base. Behind flowers or woods, it can introduce a lived-in warmth that changes the texture without becoming the obvious subject of a perfume. Its precise character depends on the extract and on dosage, so the dried-fruit and leathery facets may read differently in different blends; it remains an animal-derived ingredient rather than a vegan reconstruction of wool.
