About Sulfur

Sulfur is the name of an element. As a fragrance note, the word describes an impression associated with sulfur; it does not establish that elemental sulfur is an ingredient in a perfume.

Scent Profile

The smell of a sulfur-containing fragrance material depends on the substance and its concentration. The International Fragrance Association’s glossary explains that some sulfurous materials can suggest onion or garlic, while in a fragrance they may contribute citrus or floral nuances.

Use in Perfumery

Mendittorosa lists sulfur among the top notes of Athanor, a perfume inspired by alchemy. The materials used to create such an impression can differ from one composition to another.
