About Palo Santo Fruit
Palo Santo Fruit is an essential oil steam-distilled from fresh fruits of Bursera graveolens. It comes from the same botanical species associated with palo santo wood oil, but uses a different part of the tree. Producers in Ecuador collect the fruits for distillation; this provides a source of aromatic material without requiring the living tree to be cut down.
Scent Profile
The aromatic character combines wood, resin and balsamic warmth with peppery and citrus-like facets. Supplier literature describes a clear oil with a thin consistency. It shares some aromatic similarities with the wood distillate, including a limonene-rich freshness, while its overall composition differs. The two materials therefore should not be exchanged simply because both carry the name palo santo.
Use in Perfumery
In natural perfumery, the fruit oil can work alongside frankincense, myrrh, elemi and sandalwood, as well as citrus and coniferous materials. Its combination of brightness and resinous wood can provide a connection between a fresher opening and a deeper heart. The material should also be distinguished from other botanical species sometimes called palo santo, and from accords representing burning fragrant wood. Keeping the fruit designation records a meaningful difference in raw material, even when a perfume house does not identify its particular producer or distillation batch.
