About Healingwood

Healingwood is a natural fragrance material from IFF's LMR range, obtained from patchouli grown in Indonesia. The stems and leaves undergo hydrodistillation, followed by fractional distillation and crystallization; the name describes a patchouli-derived material rather than a species of timber.

Scent Profile

Its character is powerfully woody and earthy, with the humid impression associated with patchouli. A clean, camphoraceous lift appears against a mossy background, bringing a cool, clear edge to the deeper material. The interest lies in that contrast: a fresh, almost penetrating upper facet sits alongside damp earth and darker wood, rather than a uniformly dry or sawdust-like impression.

Use in Perfumery

Healingwood contributes woody and earthy texture to a composition. Alongside smoother notes such as musk or vanilla, that texture can provide a distinct counterpoint to sweetness, while vetiver can continue the rooty, woody direction. These combinations describe ways of understanding its effect within a blend; the balance of coolness, earthiness and wood depends on the surrounding materials. A fragrance using it may reveal its cleaner facet or let the deeper patchouli character come forward.
