About Buddha Wood

Buddha Wood is Eremophila mitchellii, a tree growing in drier parts of Australia. It is also known as Desert Rosewood or False Sandalwood. Steam distillation of the woody material produces an essential oil used for its rich woody character in fragrance compositions.

Scent Profile

The aroma has a smooth, substantial woodiness that can suggest oak. Sweet and musky impressions accompany deeper earthy, mossy and lightly smoky facets. A pepper-like spicy character adds another expression around the wood. These different qualities give the material both a rounded texture and a drier, more complex woody depth.

Use in Perfumery

Buddha Wood supports woody compositions and is valued for its fixative role. It blends with cedarwood and patchouli, connecting dry wood with a more earthy character. Mandarin adds brightness, while cardamom introduces a warmer spicy accent around the central wood. Vanilla and benzoin bring softer sweetness and a resinous texture. Within such combinations, bright fruit, spice and warm sweet materials can meet around the rich wood, allowing its smoothness and darker facets to remain part of the same woody composition.
