About Bergamot Petitgrain

Bergamot petitgrain is a steam-distilled essential oil obtained from the leaves and small branches of Citrus bergamia. It comes from a different part of the plant from familiar bergamot peel oil, so the two materials offer related but distinct ways to bring bergamot into a perfume.

Scent Profile

Its freshness is green and leafy, with a delicate floral character associated with bergamot. Instead of placing all the emphasis on juicy citrus peel, it introduces a drier outline of foliage and twig, keeping the impression clear and lifted. Compared with petitgrain from bitter orange, bergamot petitgrain can offer a particularly neat, floral freshness; the precise balance reflects the origin and the distilled material.

Use in Perfumery

It fits naturally into citrus, cologne and green-floral compositions, connecting an opening of peel oils with flowers, aromatic herbs or woods. Blending the leaf oil with bergamot peel creates contrast within the character of a single plant, while neroli and other petitgrain oils provide neighbouring floral and green colours. Used as part of a wider structure, it can keep a fresh composition from relying only on fruitiness, adding a leafy dimension without requiring a heavy base.
