The development story is uniquely captivating: the perfumer was given no specific brief, only a short text passage from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel *Tender Is the Night*. Possessing the synesthetic ability to perceive scents from written words, the perfumer masterfully translated the text's "sugar flowers" and "pink clouds" into a vibrant olfactory reality. Perfumer & Creation Story

The nose behind this creation is Mathieu Nardin, a prodigy from Grasse who hails from an extraordinary lineage of perfumers and botanical growers. Appointed as an official perfumer at the young age of 23, his synesthetic talent allowed him to "see" the scents described in literature.

The origin of *Scherzo* involved an ambitious experiment: the brand handed the exact same Fitzgerald passage to Nardin and another master perfumer, asking them to create freely without direction. Nardin focused on the "light" within the text—the burst of colors and confectionary sweetness—resulting in *Scherzo*. The other perfumer interpreted the shadowy undercurrent of printed black ink, creating the contrasting sibling scent, *Tender*. Today, the luminous *Scherzo* remains the enduring favorite.
