Kai is a fragrance and body care brand founded in Malibu, California in 1999. Its name means ocean in Hawaiian, and its gardenia-led white-floral signature appears in products designed to bring that scent into daily life.
History
Founder Gaye Straza drew on summers spent with her family in Hawaii as a child, remembering the plumeria, pikake, gardenia and jasmine that grew around them. She spent about three years seeking a fragrance that could connect those flowers with the memories they held, then began selling it through her own boutique. In 1999 she sold the shop to concentrate on the fragrance business.
