About çanoma
çanoma was created to make fragrance that connects naturally with Japanese life and memory while retaining sound perfume structure and a genuinely new proposal. Its name combines the everyday family space of the *chanoma* with the refinement of the tea ceremony, while the cedilla suggests the French word *ça*. Japanese sensibility and French technique are therefore present in the identity before the bottle is opened.
History
After graduate study in engineering management at the University of Tokyo and work in finance, Yuta Watanabe moved to France in 2015 and entered the fragrance field while continuing his studies. Experience with French perfumer Jean-Michel Duriez led to a collaborative model: Watanabe directs the idea and sensory decisions, while Duriez brings technical perfumery knowledge to the formula. Following development and crowdfunding preparations in 2019, the house launched in Paris in September 2020.
Philosophy & Signature Style
A good perfume, in the house's view, needs both a stable, satisfying structure and a proposal not already familiar. Numerical names record the order of creation and the number of trials required for the accepted version, directing attention toward smelling before interpretation. Genji-kō incense diagrams appear discreetly on and inside the packaging as clues to each story. With unnecessary ornament reduced, Japanese memory, humidity, and seasonal change can be felt without being exhaustively explained.
