About ARQUISTE
ARQUISTE is a New York fragrance house that uses scent to evoke historical places and moments. Its founder, Carlos Huber, is an architect and historic preservationist who develops each olfactory scene in collaboration with perfumers.
History
Born in Mexico City, Huber studied architecture and historic preservation before working in New York. He trained in perfume history, evaluation and fragrance development under perfumer Rodrigo Flores-Roux. Drawing these interests together, he founded ARQUISTE in 2011. The collection reached Japan through NOSE SHOP in 2025.
Philosophy & Signature Style
The house approaches fragrance through the lens of preservation. Research into a particular setting provides the starting point for an imagined scent, which is developed with perfumers including Rodrigo Flores-Roux, Yann Vasnier and Calice Becker. Woods, flowers, spices and other materials give the stories a form that can be worn. Each perfume invites a personal encounter with a historical scene rather than claiming a literal reproduction of every detail.
Fragrances
L’Etrog evokes a citron harvest in medieval Calabria, while Anima Dulcis takes a seventeenth-century Mexican convent as its setting. Across the collection, the places and periods behind the compositions offer another way to choose a scent: by following a story as well as its notes.
