Rose Atlantic Perfume Oil
A saltwater rose roll-on drawn from wild beach roses on the New England shore and childhood summers aboard a camp ferry.
Perfumer: David Seth Moltz
Rose Atlantic perfume oil begins on the New England shore, where David Seth Moltz says he would rather be than anywhere else in summer: Marblehead, Maine, Nantucket. By late afternoon the sea breeze brings in cool, salted air, and the edges of the beach are covered with bushes of single-petalled rosa rugosa, fresh and purple-fruity in the summer sun.
Music belongs to the season too. As a child he went to day camp on an island, and every morning boarded a two-deck ferry where everyone sang the whole way out; on the trip home, Sinatra's "Summer Wind" played.
This is not just a rose, Moltz writes. It holds the ocean, delicate petals, the green stem, the waxy leaves and the fresh, idyllic powder of summertime. A rose accord and dune grass, with muscone, salt water and white moss beneath, keep the flower growing wild on the shore rather than cut for a vase. He calls it an everyday perfume; here it comes as a 10 mL roll-on.
