Defender is the brand's portrait of Boadicea, queen of the Iceni and its central reference. The top lists ginger, grapefruit, honey, cognac, liquorice and red fruits: zesty citrus and spice meet dark liquorice, honeyed cognac and a compote-like mix of plum, raspberry and sour cherry.
The heart is orange blossom, myrrh resin, night-blooming jasmine and hay. Sunny orange blossom leads into heady night-blooming jasmine, Hay absolute evokes the brand’s imagined scene of Boadicea growing wheat and barley in her childhood, while myrrh adds a resinous shadow to the flowers and hay.
The other pillar is a verdigris leather accord, a character the brand calls Leather Fusion. It balances the fruit and flowers, imagining the queen’s leather armour. The base lists musks, leather, red amber, Peru balsam, benzoin, tonka beans and cistus labdanum, with Peru balsam lending vanilla- and cinnamon-like warmth to the leather. Fruit and honey sweetness meet rich flowers, hay, warm leather and resins.
