Yoko Yamafuji is a Japanese perfumer who does not isolate clothing, interiors, beauty, and stage work into separate disciplines. Scent grows from her practice of selecting and connecting what feels good. Perfume is an invisible instrument that tunes body and surrounding space that day rather than a finished character imposed on the wearer.
Career
Yamafuji has worked as an interior stylist, beauty journalist, and lifestyle coordinator, directing YORK. and the appointment-based salon HEIGHTS. Her practice also includes product planning, brand consulting, and scent for facilities and performance spaces. In 2021 she established a botanical perfume house under her own creative direction and has continued small-scale work centered on plant-derived essential oils.
Creative Style & Philosophy
Music, books, food, wind, and the color of the sky can provide the starting point when the body responds to them in daily life. Essential oils vary by harvest, origin, and lot, so difference is accepted like a vintage rather than completely standardized.
