About Vincent Schaller

Vincent Schaller is a Swiss-born perfumer with a doctorate in chemistry. His work at Firmenich connects an understanding of fragrance molecules with the colours and impressions of fruit, flowers and everyday surroundings. His commissions have involved brands such as Grès and LabSolue.

Career

Schaller has worked in São Paulo, Paris, London and New York, creating fragrances for houses including Lalique, Paul Smith and Max Mara. He spent four years in Firmenich’s Smell The Taste department, developing distinctive molecules that could also become materials for perfume composition. The experience of living in London later provided the starting point for the first three fragrances in HOC Parfum’s 24H London collection, which translates the city’s atmosphere and the feelings associated with it into scent.

Creative Style & Philosophy

His experience with the aromas of food offers a route into the fruit and spice effects of perfumery. Scientific training allows him to approach the materials at a molecular level, while places he has lived supply emotional and imaginative starting points. His composition for Grès brings melon and mandarin towards white flowers and a warm amber base; His floral composition for LabSolue takes a tropical flower as its central subject, showing another direction within his work.

Signature Works

  • *Cabotine Gold* — Introduced by Grès in 2010, combining fruit and white flowers with the warmth of amber.
  • *26 Frangipani* — LabSolue’s eau de parfum centred on the tropical white flower that gives it its name.
