Simone Lo Bue

Simone Lo Bue is a perfumer at Moellhausen, the Italian fragrance company. He has worked there as a creative perfumer since 2022.

Career

His path into perfume began almost by chance. He took a job at a major Milan perfumery to pay for his chemistry studies. LVMH then recruited him to its perfume and make-up division, where he worked with Givenchy, Kenzo, Pucci and Fendi. He later became National Make-up Artist at Givenchy Italia and a trainer for Givenchy and Kenzo. In 2015, a perfumery course at Mouillettes & Co. gave him direct contact with raw materials and with how fragrances are created. He went on to join Guerlain's training team and served as Training Manager Italy for Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle. He learned composition from Paolo and Martino Cerizza. Meeting Dominique Moellhausen in 2021 led him to the company's Perfumery Academy.

Creative Style

Lo Bue compares building a formula to staging a show, where raw materials interact like characters in a script. He aims for fragrances that tell stories and paint olfactory pictures. Moellhausen describes him composing with the delicate, balanced touch of a musician. Theater taught him to take off the mask and give his sensitivity free expression. His chemistry background shows in his ongoing study of how raw materials work and transform.

Signature Works

  • *SO.36*

A Schwarzlose fragrance named after a former postal district in Berlin's Kreuzberg. It moves from honey, saffron and whisky into flowers, then settles on oud and vanilla.

  • *QRD*

Part of Maison Blanche's trilogy with KNK and BRD. Lo Bue worked with designer Yannik Zamboni on a scent that recalls the laundry and soap of Zamboni’s childhood.
