About Richard Herpin
Richard Herpin is a French perfumer who describes himself as a translator of emotion. Rather than convert a client's story into explanatory copy, he looks for its central scene or temperature and gives it olfactory form.
Career
Raised in Cannes, Herpin spent time around his father's workshop of antiques and precious woods. Pierre Bourdon, a family acquaintance and mentor, taught him to capture the essence of a subject and omit unnecessary detail. After a long fine-fragrance career across Europe and the United States, he now continues independent creative work while running his own brand with his wife.
Creative Style & Philosophy
An initial emotional scene is formulated like a quick sketch, then color, light, and texture are added or removed. Although drawn to the density of rare woods, spices, and resins, he avoids excessive accumulation, using space to strengthen the center. Luxury is expressed not through weight alone but through depth that changes quietly on skin.
