About Richard Fraysse

Richard Fraysse is a French perfumer from a multigenerational fragrance family. From 1998 he served as Caron's house perfumer, maintaining the house's historical formulas while creating new work. His father, André Fraysse, was also a noted perfumer.

Career

Fraysse grew up close to the flower fields and fragrance factories around Grasse, learning to distinguish materials from childhood. He became Caron's in-house perfumer in 1998 and assumed responsibility for both preservation and new composition. He later passed the role to his son William.

Creative Style & Philosophy

His work emphasizes the quality of natural materials and the equilibrium of classical composition. He combined inherited material knowledge with practical command of Caron's archive, keeping the house's density while giving new releases a contemporary outline.

His position required two kinds of judgment: respecting formulas associated with earlier Caron perfumers and deciding how new work could belong to the same house. Published interviews emphasize raw materials and balance, while the credited fragrances provide the clearest evidence of how those priorities appeared in practice.

Signature Works

  • *L'Anarchiste — Caron, 2000* — A Caron masculine fragrance built through a sharp meeting of woods and aromatic materials.
  • *Lady Caron — Caron, 2000* — A composition joining urban floral brightness with Caron's characteristic density.
