Career

Guerlain was born in Abbeville, France, into a family of spice merchants. From a young age, he developed a fascination with scents, which led him to study chemistry and medicine. He later traveled to England to refine his skills in soap-making and perfumery. In 1828, he opened his first boutique at 42 Rue de Rivoli in Paris, offering a range of fragrances and cosmetics. His reputation grew rapidly, attracting a distinguished clientele, including members of the French aristocracy and European royalty.
