Paulo de Moraes
A Brazilian perfumer at LUZI, drawing on nature, imagery and expressive citrus freshness.
About Paulo de Moraes
Paulo de Moraes is a Brazilian perfumer working as a Senior Perfumer at LUZI in Switzerland. He draws creative ideas from nature, photography and the sensory detail of everyday life, connecting more expressive fruit and flowers with compositions that can evoke feelings and memories. His work combines a more clearly fresh direction with a curiosity about the experiences around a fragrance.
Career
Technical studies in biochemistry in the Campinas region of Brazil led him to a placement at Quest International, where he discovered perfume creation. In 2007 he moved to Drom, training with Eurico Mazzini and working with international teams in Germany and Paris. A desire to develop his career abroad later brought him to LUZI in Switzerland.
Creative Style & Philosophy
The richness of nature and the atmosphere of black-and-white photography provide starting points for his work. Citrus and aromatic freshness form a recurring part of his creative expression, while combinations of materials allow feelings and stories to develop around them. Images offer an initial direction, and direct experience of materials or places can give those ideas a more distinct sensory character.
Signature Works
- **St. Tropez — 4711**: Mandarin, lime and a floral bouquet meet softer woods in a composition inspired by a summer on the French Riviera.
- **Le Lis Blanc 21 — Le Lis Blanc**: Co-created with Eurico Mazzini, the anniversary fragrance follows an amber scent developed for the brand’s stores.
