About Nicholas Calderone

Nicholas Calderone is a perfumer whose long career at International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) included work for American fashion and beauty houses. His credited portfolio spans men's fragrances and softer floral compositions released in the 1980s and 1990s.

Career

At IFF, Calderone worked on fragrances for Estée Lauder, Donna Karan, Oscar de la Renta and Liz Claiborne. His projects included both individual compositions and collaborations, including work with Sophia Grojsman. One particularly well-known project developed from a scent for bath and body products into a standalone fragrance, connecting everyday body care with fine perfumery.

Creative Style & Philosophy

His work ranges from brisk aromatic structures with herbs, woods and moss to powdery florals with a softer, more enveloping character. Suede, jasmine, lily of the valley and musk provide a tactile impression in his best-known soft floral work. Comparing these textures with the clear herbal and woody character of his masculine compositions offers a way to explore the range of his portfolio.
