Michael Wong is the Hong Kong perfumer and founder behind One Day. His work focuses on the connection between scent, memory, and place, often translating a specific moment or environment into a calm, wearable fragrance.
Career
In an interview with Ministry of Scent, Wong explains that his interest in perfumery began after encountering the emotional power of fragrance during a trip to Taiwan. He went on to study perfumery in South Korea in 2016, practicing one-on-one with a teacher trained at ISIPCA and GIP. He has continued to broaden his education through books and online courses, including programs connected with the Institute for Art and Olfaction.
Creative Style & Philosophy
Wong describes One Day as an olfactory diary: a way to record the smells of days, places, and feelings that are often overlooked. His minimalist white packaging follows the same idea, reducing visual distraction so the wearer can form their own interpretation of the scent.
