About Meng Gu

Meng Gu is a Chinese perfumer based in Beijing and working in Robertet’s fine-fragrance division. Her practice connects Chinese daily life and scent culture with material and compositional knowledge developed through European study.

Career

She studied at ISIPCA, the University of Versailles, and the University of Padua before progressing from trainee to perfumer at Robertet. For The Peninsula Beijing amenities, she served as fragrance curator and translated memories of the city and its palace architecture into scent.

Creative Style & Philosophy

Gu treats perfume as a process of exploration and discovery and favors concise formulas that allow a few materials to reach full strength. Woods, incense, tea, and culturally specific memories are central to her ambition to bring Chinese-inspired smells to an international audience.

The resulting formulas favor concentration of meaning over excess of material. Chinese cultural references, modern city life, tea, woods, and mineral or smoky textures are distilled into deliberate contrasts, giving the wearer room to discover both intensity and quietness over time.
