About Mélanie Carestia

Mélanie Carestia is a French perfumer whose path has run from a classic raw-materials house through the creation lab of a major couture maison and into international fine fragrance work.

Career

She trained at Robertet as a student and then junior perfumer under Francis Camail and Michel Almairac. In 2011 she joined the Christian Dior creation laboratory led by François Demachy, later working for Symrise in Paris and Dubai on projects for clients including Arabian Oud and Al Rehab, and in September 2017 she was appointed fine fragrance perfumer at Sozio in Levallois, Paris.

Creative Style & Philosophy

Nature and a childhood attachment to orange blossom remain her starting points. She composes from images and remembered experiences, using concrete scenes and sensations as starting points for the composition.

Signature Works

  • *Bloom Away 21.04* — made for Neydo after Natalie's dream of walking through a floating painting into a real garden, with bergamot, peach and rhubarb over rose and jasmine, settling into patchouli and moss.
  • *Ginepro di Sardegna* — her 2014 composition for Acqua di Parma, where juniper, bergamot and spices meet cypress and cedar.

She has also composed the home fragrance *Lily Flower / Fleur de Lis* for Côte Noire, pairing lily with bergamot and dried clove.
