About Luke Malvey

Luke Malvey is an American perfumer born in New Jersey in 1995. He came to fragrance through chemical engineering and created the first water-based fragrances for john masters organics, interpreting outdoor and domestic scenes through flowers, herbs and woods.

Career

After studying chemical engineering, he joined a French fragrance company in 2017. Encounters with natural raw materials encouraged him to pursue composition. He studied at a perfumery school in Grasse, in southern France, and later trained under Jérôme Epinette. His work brings together that French perfumery education and the sensibility of his American upbringing.

Creative Style & Philosophy

An interest in natural materials was the starting point for his move into perfumery. His two compositions for john masters organics interpret plant-filled settings through combinations of fruit, citrus, herbs and woods. Both are water-based formulas with aromatic materials held in lecithin capsules. Across the pair, floral brightness meets quieter woods, while the freshness of herbs is set alongside the warmth of spices. These contrasts give the two imagined scenes different characters within a shared brief.

Signature Works

  • *Purple Flower* suggests a hidden valley through fruit and flowers, followed by cedarwood, vetiver and moss.
  • *Aromatic Woods* moves from citrus and cardamom into herbs, with clove and warmer woods in the finish.
