Laura Santander is a perfumer who built her career at Carbonnel, the Spanish fragrance company. She has collaborated with Xerjoff and Roberto Ugolini, and is credited alongside Christian Carbonnel on several well-known niche compositions.
Career
Santander entered the profession as an assistant at Carbonnel rather than through university training in perfumery. A 2012 interview described roughly ten years of experience at the company, gained through persistent daily learning and practical work. That report also placed her alongside Sonia Espelta on the team's collaboration with Sergio Momo for Xerjoff's Oud Stars collection, without assigning every perfume in that collection to her individually.
Creative Style & Philosophy
Her work belongs to a collaborative process in which the client's brief is translated into several possible formulas and refined through testing and discussion. The Carbonnel team describes detailed briefs as a helpful starting point, while trust with established clients can allow greater creative freedom. Santander also enjoys the visual presence of perfume: she has spoken of buying a fragrance she helped create because she admired its original bottle, connecting her interest in scent with its presentation.
