About Henri Robert
Henri Robert was a French perfumer who inherited CHANEL's fragrance tradition after the war and added a new lightness and tension. Rather than repeat the abstraction of his predecessor, he sharpened the lines among citrus, greens, flowers, and woods.
Career
In 1954 Robert succeeded Ernest Beaux as perfumer for the House of CHANEL. His task was to protect the past while renewing it for contemporary life, as the fashion house did with clothing. He set new standards across both masculine and feminine fragrance and remained the house's second fragrance creator before the role passed to Jacques Polge.
Creative Style & Philosophy
Bright citrus and green leaves open into a narrow line of iris and floral volume, followed by woods and moss that give the trail upright posture. A chypre skeleton beneath the brightness keeps transparency from losing definition. Rather than adding decoration, Robert adjusted distance and contrast among materials to renew the house's abstraction quietly.
