About Enrico Buccella
Enrico Buccella is an Italian perfumer born in Rome. He has worked in fragrance for more than three decades and has developed several niche houses as both owner and perfumer. His catalogue extends across Cerchi Nell’Acqua, Les Voiles Dépliées, Sigilli, his namesake line, and selected work for other brands, including Laboratorio Olfattivo.
Career
Buccella studied chemistry at university and taught himself perfumery rather than following a conventional school route. In Italy, he founded Cerchi Nell’Acqua, Les Voiles Dépliées, and Sigilli, taking responsibility for the fragrances associated with those houses. In an interview about his practice, he traced his olfactory memory to childhood in the Roman countryside: earth, leaves, distant sea air, warm milk, cut grass, fruit picked from trees, hay, wet soil, burning wood, linen, and hemp washed at a spring.
Creative Style & Philosophy
Buccella links the study of formulas with memories drawn from nature, history, and everyday life. He has described a lifelong effort to develop formulas capable of reproducing the recognizable smell of the things around him. His portfolio ranges from soft, accessible gourmand effects to more assertive resinous and woody structures. Across those different registers, material selection is used to give a remembered place, texture, or moment a clear olfactory form.
