Donna Ramanauskas is a senior perfumer at Agilex Fragrances. She approaches fragrance with the instincts of both a visual artist and a cook.
Career
Perfumery began at home: her father was a perfumer, and she grew up among blotters and bottles of his daily creations. Over time she realized she wanted to follow in his footsteps, recalling that the fragrance industry "felt like home." A passion for art led her to the School of Visual Arts, and after an earlier chapter at Robertet she now works at Agilex.
Creative Style & Philosophy
She sees a common thread between composing perfumes and devising interesting food pairings, since both let her mix texture, color and scent. Constraints intrigue her as well: when regulations, stability or cost force a formula to change, she finds herself reaching for materials she might otherwise pass over, moments she says "often open unexpected doors." Drawing on taste, touch and sight, she aims to fold avant-garde flair and fine-art inspiration into her compositions.
