Carmita Magalhães is a French-born perfumer who has lived in Brazil since 1999. With Portuguese parents and a career closely connected with Brazil, she brings different cultural experiences to her work as a Senior Perfumer at dsm-firmenich. Plants and the variety of natural landscapes provide recurring sources of creative ideas, linking familiar sensory details with a more expressive fragrance setting.

Career

University studies in chemistry and encouragement from an acquaintance led her toward perfumery and training at ISIPCA in France. A placement within a fragrance house introduced her to the profession, followed by further work as a perfumer. After five years of training, she took up an opportunity in Brazil, where the variety of flowers, fruit, landscapes and light became a lasting part of her creative life.

Creative Style & Philosophy

Freshness, comfort and sensuality guide her approach. Childhood experiences of learning to recognise aromatic plants with her father remain connected with impressions of forests, damp basil and grasses. Focusing on a material can provide a starting point, with brighter citrus, more fluid flowers and gentler sweetness offering different ways to give the composition its own expression.

Signature Works
