About Sweet Woodruff
Sweet woodruff, Galium odoratum, is a perennial with narrow leaves arranged in whorls around its stems and clusters of small white flowers. Its German name is Waldmeister.
Scent Profile
The fresh plant has little scent, while the dried leaves and flowers have a sweet scent reminiscent of freshly cut hay and vanilla. This gentle sweetness, alongside the plant's leafy appearance, offers a starting point for interpreting it as a perfume note.
Use in Perfumery
Sweet woodruff can be represented as a note linking a grassy impression with soft sweetness. In 27 87's 2025 Waldmeister, it appears with musk in the base, following anise, almond, floral and balsamic notes. The note name describes an olfactory idea and does not establish the use of a plant extract or a particular perfumery material.
