About Spanish Sage

Spanish sage is Salvia lavandulifolia, an evergreen shrub in the mint family cultivated in the Mediterranean region, particularly Spain and France. Its essential oil is obtained by steam-distilling the leaves and stems. It is botanically distinct from clary sage and common sage.

Scent Profile

The aroma is herbal and sage-like, with a clear camphoraceous coolness. Camphor and 1,8-cineole are prominent constituents, helping explain its fresh, slightly medicinal association. The herbal and camphoraceous facets remain closely connected, giving the material a clear aromatic identity.

Use in Perfumery

Bergamot and other citrus notes can accompany its herbal greenness, placing a leafy impression beside the freshness of fruit peel. Musk and cedar offer softer, woodier partners. In those combinations Spanish sage adds a recognisable aromatic facet, allowing a floral or woody composition to carry an additional impression of fresh herbs.
