About Shichitoui
Shichitoui represents Cyperus malaccensis, a plant in the sedge family. The Japanese name is also written 七島藺. Its botanical identity should be kept distinct from common rush materials that may be grouped under more general grassy descriptions.
Scent Profile
As a perfume note, it brings a calm impression of grass with green and drier texture. Citrus can place that character within a brighter opening, while woods and resins draw it toward a deeper atmosphere.
Use in Perfumery
Tangerine and petitgrain can highlight its greenery. Roasted tea, neroli and orange blossom provide bridges toward oud, benzoin and myrrh, allowing the grassy impression to participate in a layered composition.
Did You Know?
OSAJI’s over specifically names Cyperus malaccensis stem extract from Oita Prefecture. Identifying the plant and the part used gives a clearer description than treating every grassy note as the same material.
