The scent of mopane is characterized by dry wood, earth, a slight smokiness, and a subtle resinous quality. In the top note, a dry, sawdust-like impression is perceived, and over time, earthy and smoky nuances emerge. In the base note, a soft resinous quality persists along with a warm woody trail.

Use in Perfumery

Mopane is primarily used as a base or middle note. Its dry woody character suits oriental, woody, leather, and amber fragrance families. It is often used as an accent because even in small amounts it imparts natural depth and complexity to other notes.
