Lenga (Nothofagus pumilio) is a deciduous tree native to the sub-Antarctic forests of Patagonia. Its wood yields a dry, resinous scent with subtle smoky and earthy nuances. In perfumery, the essential oil or absolute is typically obtained through steam distillation or solvent extraction of the heartwood, sourced sustainably from the Patagonian regions of Chile and Argentina. Compared to other woody notes, Lenga offers a lighter, fresher character while retaining depth and complexity.

The scent of Lenga is centered on dry wood, layered with resinous sweetness and a faint smokiness. At the top, a coniferous freshness and a hint of citrus brightness may be perceived. As it evolves, a creamy woodiness reminiscent of dry cedar or sandalwood emerges in the heart and base, while earthy, moss-like facets provide structure.
