About Leather Oud
Leather oud describes an olfactive pairing of leather-like texture and the deeper woody character associated with oud. In perfume, a leather accord evokes the smell and feel of leather through fragrance materials, while oud suggests agarwood and its resinous depth; together they give dry wood a more supple surface.
Scent Profile
The sharper smell of new leather or the mellower warmth of well-used leather can meet the smoky, resinous facets of oud. A stronger emphasis on leather gives the impression a more clearly defined outline, while greater weight on the woods and resins makes it feel deeper and warmer. Its characteristic contrast is between a dry outer surface and a softer, warmer texture within.
Use in Perfumery
A leather-oud character can give rose or jasmine a darker setting, placing a woody foundation below their softer petals. With amber and spices, the resinous and leathery impressions can connect to form a fuller texture. It is useful both for introducing the feel of leather into a wood-focused composition and for adding a smoky shadow around flowers, allowing the brighter layers to remain visible above a calmer foundation.
