About Grape Must

Grape must is the liquid obtained from fresh grapes through processes such as crushing, draining or pressing. In perfumery, the term evokes the juicy sweetness of that fresh grape liquid; it refers to a different idea from aged wine or the lees left after fermentation.

Scent Profile

The central impression is sweet, juice-filled fruit, suggesting grape flesh and freshly pressed juice. A light tartness accompanies the sweetness, giving the fruit an immediate, fresh character. White peach adds a softer fruit texture, while pear can bring a more watery expression. Combined with candied lemon, the grape impression meets both citrus brightness and a sweeter candied accent.

Use in Perfumery

Grape must can be placed in the opening of a fruity composition, connecting a juicy beginning with the softer character of flowers. Rose, violet and cyclamen provide different floral textures alongside the fruit. White pepper can introduce a dry spicy accent within that fruit-and-flower setting. A foundation of pale woods, musk and amber gives these brighter materials a warmer background, allowing juicy fruit, soft petals and dry spice to meet in the same fragrance.
