About Gaiac Wood
Gaiac wood is a woody material named for the tree from which it is associated. In a fragrance, it contributes to the deeper part of the composition. Its character differs from the crisp dryness often associated with cedarwood, giving perfumers another way to shape a woody finish.
Scent Profile
Gaiac wood can feel warm and softly dense. Depending on the composition, it may also show a smoky aspect, though that need not dominate. It is less useful to imagine a single generic wood smell than to notice its particular balance of warmth and depth. Against flowers, those qualities can make the ending feel calmer without erasing the floral center.
Use in Perfumery
It is commonly used where a fragrance needs a woody base. Beside rose or other flowers, it can give weight to the later stages. With vetiver and cedarwood, it offers a warmer texture alongside their earthier and drier qualities. The blend can therefore feel layered rather than like one undifferentiated piece of timber.
Did You Know?
Woody is a broad fragrance family, not the smell of one tree. Comparing gaiac wood with cedarwood shows how much warmth and dryness can vary within that family.
