About Ezo Spruce
Ezo spruce (Picea jezoensis) is a large evergreen conifer native to Hokkaido, Sakhalin, and parts of Northeast Asia. It can grow up to 30–40 meters tall and is designated, along with Akaezo spruce, as one of the official trees of Hokkaido.
Scent Profile
The scent of Ezo spruce centers on a **cool, crisp woody character** typical of conifers. Its forest-like character can be described through a faint resinous sweetness and a fresh, forest-like airiness.
Use in Perfumery
Ezo spruce can contribute a northern-forest character to woody and aromatic compositions. It pairs well with citrus top notes for a bright, refreshing opening, and with lavender or oakmoss it adds depth and a calm, grounded quality to the composition.
Did You Know?
The fine, close-grained wood of Ezo spruce is prized for piano soundboards and violin tops. In the past, it was also used as roofing material in Hokkaido.
