About Dynamone

Dynamone is the trade name of a natural extract obtained from the leaves and stems of the rockrose shrub, Cistus ladaniferus. This Mediterranean plant is also well known as the source of labdanum, a resinous perfumery material, so Dynamone shares its botanical roots with one of perfumery's classic ambery ingredients.

Scent Profile

Start with labdanum-like depth: dark, warm and **ambery**. Then add a dry mineral edge with a metallic glint, along with a leathery character. That flinty combination is sometimes likened to gunpowder, but the comparison is simply a way of describing the smell, a scent analogy rather than a statement about what the material is.

Use in Perfumery

Dynamone adds mineral depth to leather and amber bases. Its interest lies in the contrast between the warmth associated with labdanum and a dry, flinty edge. That contrast gives a perfumer another way to shade a resinous composition, beyond simply making it sweeter or heavier.

Did You Know?

The cistus used for Dynamone is harvested in Spain and then processed in France using a proprietary method, so a single material travels across a border before it reaches the perfumer's shelf.
