About Delphinium

Delphiniums are flowering plants admired for upright spikes of blue, violet, pink or white blooms. Familiar in gardens and cut-flower arrangements, their striking form supplies a floral image for perfumery as well as a recognisable botanical subject.

Scent Profile

As a perfume note, delphinium evokes the delicacy and clarity associated with a bouquet of blue flowers. The name is best understood through that floral impression, rather than as a promise of a particular extracted essential oil. Its character takes shape alongside the other flowers in a composition, suggesting an airy presence within the bouquet rather than the rich, full sweetness associated with a strong rose.

Use in Perfumery

It can appear among lily-of-the-valley, pale roses and other flowers to develop a light, fresh floral heart. Fruit can provide brightness around that heart, while musk carries a clean finish underneath it. The visual comparison to a slender blue flower spike gives a useful sense of the intended atmosphere: graceful, cool and delicate, with its effect depending on the balance of the surrounding floral materials.
