About Blue Cypress

Blue Cypress is Callitris intratropica, a tree native to northern Australia. Steam distillation of its wood produces an essential oil with a distinctive blue colour and a warm woody aroma. Australian production includes harvesting, distilling and processing the native wood in the Northern Territory.

Scent Profile

The oil has a woody, balsamic character with a slight sweetness. A fresher resinous impression and smoky undertones can accompany the warm wood, bringing both crispness and depth to the woody theme. These different textures allow the material to sit among aromatic plants as well as richer woody materials.

Use in Perfumery

Blue Cypress is used in woody and aromatic compositions, where it blends with sandalwood, vetiver and other wood oils. Lavender can bring herbal freshness around the resinous character, while patchouli contributes an earthy depth. Clove and star anise add warmer spicy accents alongside the woods. Jasmine offers a softer floral texture within this aromatic setting. Such combinations connect wood, herbs, flowers and spice, with the blue cypress contributing a resinous, slightly sweet expression to the central woody character.
